We work tirelessly to ensure that all wild animals, whether living in captivity or in the wild, are treated with compassion and respect and are able to live their lives according to their needs.

As a leading wildlife charity, we oppose the exploitation of wild animals in captivity and campaign to keep them where they belong - in the wild.

We promote Compassionate Conservation to enhance the survival of threatened species in the wild and protect natural habitats while respecting the needs and safeguarding the welfare of individual animals.
We seek to have a positive impact on animals in the wild and protect their ecosystems in perpetuity, for their own intrinsic value and for the critical roles they play within the natural world.

Born Free is committed to protecting threatened species in their natural habitats and preventing animal suffering. We are involved in a variety of field conservation projects which aim to protect the natural habitat of wild animals including lions, Ethiopian wolves, elephants, chimpanzees, tigers, gorillas and giraffe.

Born Free strongly opposes the exploitation and keeping of wild animals in captivity and campaigns to Keep Wildlife in the Wild. We work to end any activities that negatively impact wild animals living in captivity.

Born Free rescues vulnerable animals from appalling conditions where they have been confined, exploited or abused. We rehabilitate them and, whenever possible, release them back into the wild. Sadly, many animals we rescue have been too damaged by captivity to return to the wild so we give them lifetime care at our dedicated rescue and education centres
